Twinkle Twinkle [VERY] Little Star

I've blogged before about my inability to wear big jewelry. I'm never sure if it looks good, and then I spend the day thinking everyone is looking at me funny. So I tend to run in the other direction (metaphorically -- I don't run) and find the smallest jewelry possible.

But lately I've been having trouble finding earrings that are small enough. So I've had to get creative and move away from the earring category entirely. Behold my new find: nose studs! Worn as earrings! They are so perfectly teeny. Just make sure you buy two of each, because they are sold separately, not in pairs -- at least on the site I went to. I had a hard time dealing with the pages and pages of strange body piercings, but I was able to get through it and I've gotten a bunch of pairs in different colors, plus these cute little stars.

The only drawback? My Gmail account now thinks I am a fan of body piercing, and regularly serves me up text ads for the strange and disturbing jewelry it is convinced that I want. Yuck.

A ringing endorsement

I never know what type of jewelry is in style, and this goes double for earrings (maybe because there are two of them). Is it big hoops this season? Chandelier earrings? Long, dangly ones? The pressure to get it right usually sends me running in the other direction -- I seek refuge in the smallest earrings I can possibly find, from barely visible studs to mini-hoops purchased in the section of the department store that sells jewelry for babies. (True story.)

But if I were a little more daring, I'm pretty sure I would wear these. Yes, they're long and dangly, but in an indie way that tells the world you don't care if they're in style or not. Though I think they might be. Next season.

What Could Have Been

Were my firm's holiday party not being held in the cafeteria, and were I actually going (which I'm not, because it's being held in the cafeteria), I think these earrings would have looked lovely with the new dress I would have bought.

Only $15 - and made of genuine gold plate and amethyst glass (huh?).

Go Green

I am accessory challenged. It is one of several self-diagnosed, poorly understood, unresearched illness that afflict me. It is unrelated to my painful pattern phobia, which causes me to flee from florals and other prints and run straight into the arms of my beloved solids.

My being accessory-challenged has caused me to take such extreme measures as to wear only diamond studs for 6 months at a time. But for the last year or two, I have been submitting myself to aversion therapy. I force myself to purchase and wear accessories. When picking out jewelry, my taste has turned very much toward the hippie, as it so often does, and I just love these earrings, and their very reasonable price. I so think you can wear them with jeans and on the red carpet (OK, dinner at a restaurant that does not have a $1 menu or Wanda Sykes, Queen Latifah or John Goodman doing their voice overs).
