Scarf it down

We get it, Winter. You've been feeling a little overlooked, what with all the talk about global warming, and you just want to remind us all you're still here. Well, let me assure you that with the third blizzard, you really got your point across. We remember you. You can stop now.

But just in case you don't, I've shelled out $3 bucks for this scarf.

Strawberry Whine

I went into K-Mart yesterday because it's not far from my apartment and I needed a bunch of things that I couldn't find anywhere else nearby. As a result of that trip, I have this advice to offer you: never buy a 6-foot ladder and a couple of 5-lb. hand weights in the same shopping excursion if you have to carry all of your purchases home.

Another result of that trip? Realizing that some of K-Mart's clothes are actually pretty cute. I got a striped racerback dress that I will totally wear. I couldn't find it on their site to show you, but I found this one, which I'm also loving. It makes me want some strawberries.

Blue Light Special

Even though I know that it is wrong, and I'm supposed to hate them for being an evil corporate empire out to take over the world, I openly admit to loving Wal-Mart. I grew up in the suburbs, in a small city that boasted not 1 but 2 Super-Wal-Marts. In college, going to Wal-Mart was something of a social event -- you were always sure to see someone you knew -- and I went at least once, if not twice, a day.

But then I moved to NYC, and there is no Wal-Mart here. There is a K-Mart (multiple K-Marts, in fact), but I was always skeptical.

Until yesterday. During a quick trip to K-Mart to pick up some Ziploc sandwich bags, I was on my way to check out the nail polish selection (a favorite hobby; I can never have too many colors), I espied this tote. I think it's adorable in a late-80s, neon graffiti way, and it's such a great size and shape -- really convenient for carrying stuff to and from work, and could possibly even fit a laptop.

And aren't you in luck -- while I had to pay full price ($16.99), it's on sale on the web site for $11.89! Barely more than my box of Ziplocs.

I Can't Believe it's Not Target

Here are two adorable dresses. No one will believe it when you tell them where you got them. In fact, don't tell them. They might die of shock. Their families will sue you. You will have to put all your would-be discretionary funds into their hands as part of the civil settlement. Then you won't have any money to buy even these cheap beauties. So mum's the word. Tell them the dress came from "mart", with a silent K, of course.

Along with the tiny price ($14.99!!) apparently comes a teeny, tiny picture. Check out the link and fall in love. Yes, it's polyester - so is Max Studio... Wash and wear, baby.

And how sweet is this dress that you can hardly see? At a mere $18.74 (because $18.75 would turn buyers away?), this one has awesome self-braid details. Kmart has gone so far as to call this taupe color 'shitake' - when did that happen? I feel like I'm at J. Crew. Where the price tag would read at least 5 times the price.
